We had been living in CR for a long time before we went down to Riverside.
Riverside is the official "future birthplace" of Captain James T. Kirk. Essentially,
they were the first town to ask the Star Trek people if it could be them, so it
was. If I sound mean, it's because while the trip itself was fun, the town
has nothing to offer. There was the above enterprise model that they use in
their yearly parade, this gift shop,
and this sign.
We toured the whole place in less than an hour. There was no place to eat
that sounded good. There was nothing else to do. I think there are less
than a couple hundred people living there. There is a new section on the north
side of town, closest to Iowa City, but even that area doesn't have anything for
tourists.
I understand the need for towns to have attractions. It's too bad they weren't
just big enough to do more. We left feeling a bit underwhelved about it all.
