| Freedom Fighters | Third Person Shooter action game | I am playing this again and it's quite fun. It's a third person shooter game with a limited inventory. The idea is that the US has been invaded by Russia, actually USSR, and you are helping to liberate NYC. The levels are very nice in that you might have two or three that you are working on at the same time. You can go back and forth between the levels to get some supplies. It's not a great game but it's fun. | B |
| Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Agrimar | MMO set in Tolkien's world | I am not a fan of the LotR books. They never pulled me in and I didn't like the movies. However, the MMO was GREAT! Much better than WoW. The story was much more interesting and I wanted to read all I could with the characters I met. I really enjoyed playing it. However, like any MMO game, after a certain level, it requires a group to play and when I lost mine, they got ahead of me, it wasn't fun anymore. And with no solo option, I stopped playing it. | B- |
| Hellgate London | A third person shooter game | This is essentially an updated, improved Diablo. Instead of fantasy, though, it's a dark future world with guns and some powers against demons. It can't sustain itself with me, though, just like Diablo. After hours of the same thing, over and over, I just stopped playing it one day. It's not a bad game but it couldn't hold my attention enough to finish it. | B- |
| World of Warcraft | MMORPG | In the first several months, this game is a lot of fun. There is a lot of solo things to do. I like the history and the story of the world as well as the diverse characters. However, five months later, I am finding it tedious. Level advancement has slowed way down, which isn't fun and doesn't give me a need to replay it. I am still playing it because my friend and I are having a lot of fun. I haven't had any wish to solo it anymore because now that I understand the game, there isn't anything "new and shiny" anymore and that was 95% of its fun. | B- |
| Star Trek Legacy | Starship combat from Enterprise to Next Generation | I don't know why I keep giving Star Trek titles a chance. Only one in five seems to be any good. This one, I had problems with the install and running of it. Out of the box, I had to get a patch, which was already available, to get it to run. The first mission was a lot of fun. The second mission is proving to be too tough. The second mission! Again, it could be me. I have played this over a dozen times, trying different things each time, and I can't seem to make it work. So, not having fun with the campaign. The skirmish mode is pretty fun, although it has gotten old. It is fun to win in the battles, though! So, if found in a bargain bin, it's fun. Otherwise, mostly frustrating. | C- |
| Dark Messiah of Might and Magic | A Fantasy FPS | It is unfortunate that this isn't getting better reviews. I am not sure what the reviewers were wanting or thinking. One review put it at 4/10. However, they had problems with bugs, which I didn't have, and they obviously caught on to the kick ability and used it better than I can. I can't use it near as well as they say. I think because of those two items, the game would score much higher with them. As for me, I love it! It is a FPS, which I like, and it uses fantasy, which I haven't had in a long time. There are lots of good skill choices in creating a character and I know they will help in a second play through. The story may not be the best but the gameplay makes up for it. I look forward to finishing this game! | B+ |
| Neverwinter Nights 2 | More adventure on the Sword Coast of FR, using 3.5DND rules | Graphics: 8 The graphics are not cutting edge but are a big improvement over the original. Further, the landscapes and towns, since they aren't tiled, are very good. Sound: 9 I thought the voices have been done well and I liked the background music in several places. Gameplay: 9.5 The story is much better than the first game and there is a lot of replay value, both as different classes and different alignments. Value: 9.5 There is too much to take in on the first pass. This is the type of game that can be enjoyed three or four times and still not see everything. Further, the warlock class is a lot of fun. It is also great to be able to control the NPCs more directly, if needed. Tilt: 7 I have to be honest. At the time I am writing this, I haven't played the game in a while. As good as it is, I haven't been pulled in with a need to finish it. It could be my love of FPS more than RPG for entertainment value but this one hasn't done it for me. Overall Score: 8.6 Notes: A very fun game! The interactions with the NPCs is lots of fun. The classes are fun. I really recommend it! | B |
| Titan Quest | A spiritual sequel to Diablo II | A fun game! Very much like Diablo II but with real world mythologies and monsters. Lots of replay value and lots of fun! | B- |
| Battlefield 2 : Special Forces | The add on to the first game | I didn't like this add on and it pretty much got me to stop playing it. The game had a lot of technical issues that made playing it slow or laggy. Then it started crashing. I couldn't go back to the first game and this didn't work. I installed with the idea of re-installing the first game but never bothered. Too bad with how much I probably would have liked it. | C |
| Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines | The player must survive a war as a neophyte vampire. | I really enjoyed this game. Lots of good role playing, lots of different opportunities for choices and some very good styles make for a fun game. Also, with several clans to choose from, lots of replayability. I found out many things in my second game that I didn't even realize in my first. If there is anything bad, it is the ending. I have found it tough to see them all or to be satisfied with them, no matter how much they make sense. A fun game! | A- |
