While we were looking at Izzy, and I said we should get her a playmate, the associate helping us at the pet store brought up an option.  They had another rat, a fancy blue, that had lost an eye.  Because of this, they couldn't sell her but could have someone adopt her.  We asked if she could bring her out, so she did.

We fell in love.

She also didn't poop.  She had been going through medication for the lost eye and so was used to being handled.  We had had a rattie that lost an eye and knew what it meant for her.  (Not much, really.  They don't have good eye sight.)  So, we arranged to pick her up.

We really wanted to take her then and finish the treatments as we had done it before but they had to finish them up.  So, it was a week before I could pick her up.  I held her all the way home.

She is still tentative about moving about.  However, in the past few days, she has done great about getting out of the cage more!  We found that having a blanket act as a tent, so there is a ceiling or less light, has helped her get out of the cage more and explore.  Yay!

A lot has happened from our perspective.

Jennifer read a lot about rats and that spaying the girls really helps cut down on problems, especially cancer, later.  We talked with our vet about it and she was sure about the surgery, so we had to make a decision.  We decided to do it.

Jax made it through very well.  She was groggy the first day but recovered pretty quickly the next day.  By the second day after surgery, she was doing well.  She had opened up her incision a bit but there is nothing to do about that.  A week later, she was running around just the same as before!  So, that went well and we are very happy about it.

Since then, she has gotten a little bigger.  Her and Izzy are the same size now.  They run around and fight and play!

It's funny.  We have spent a lot of money on toys for them.  We have tubes and things to climb and a big cage for them.  One night, since it was cold, Jennifer was upstairs with a blanket.  The ratties LOVED it!  They explored everywhere in it!  Soon after, we started spreading the blanket around on top of things to watch them run around under it.  They love it!  A lot of toys and all they need is boxes, pillows and a blanket!
