DND/d20
Skip Navigation Links From the beginning, I was never satisfied with DND.  It has its great points, don't get me wrong, but I was saddled with several rules lawyers.  I also started when I was young, stupid and naive and that isn't a good combination.

I always fiddled with the rules to get the style I wanted.  I added and subtracted attributes.  I used non weapon proficiencies in 1E and 2E.  I used extra classes when I could.  Nothing really seemed to work for me.  Again, my players fought me as well, creating a very well "me vs them" attitude.  It frustrated me at times but I did have lots of fun.

I embraced 3E when it came out and had almost quit DND.  I was sick of 2E.  The options were terrible and convoluted.  3E was the opposite and it really invigorated me for several more years.  However, eventually the flaws of it, to me, came through and I stopped playing 3E.

I am not currently in any DND game.  I read about it still and have picked up books on it but am not involved in it.  I tried to get into a group a bit back but it didn't work.  I am not a DND player, although I might be able to DM a highly modified form of it.  I don't look down on it but it just isn't for me anymore.

Having said that, I have had some good conversations with people who are playing it and perhaps with the right group, it wouldn't be so bad.  But, as long as my group lets me run Alternity, I am going to do that.
