I had a lot of free time as a kid, being no good with girls, and so I have a lot
of things I enjoy. I am finding that as I get older, I am getting more and
more picky. I need something that is different or a stand out. I don't
want to spend my time on something that I won't enjoy or that isn't very good.
So, look for my ideas on books, RPGs, Movies, TV and other things as I think of
them.
Reviews - I am still figuring out what my reviews mean. I came up with a system
that I liked but I don't know how well it works for me. I think I am going
to stick to the (American) grading system and refine it as I go. I will talk
about what each means in its own section.
Books - I have a read a ton of books. The few reviews I have here (as of 12/21/2006)
are not even a percent of what I have read. I have found great enjoyment in
books and love to read. I find I am reading more non fiction recently, but
I still read a lot of fiction.
RPGs - This has its own intro page, so there is not much to say here.
Movies - I have always enjoyed the movies, especially going to them and experiencing
them in the theater. I don't know why. My parents didn't really take
us all that much, although I do remember a few family outings to the movies, which
include going to see Annie, E.T. and Grease and the drive in. However it came
about, I love the movies. I think the only bad thing is that I have seen so
many that it takes a really good movie to impress or surprise me. I still
can watch nearly anything, though.
TV - I was a typical child, wanting to watch a lot of TV and being told no or having
it restricted by my parents. As I get older, I appreciate that more, but boy
did I try and watch a lot as a kid. Ah, youth. So, I have watched lots
and continue to watch a lot. I like what TV can do, and love what GREAT TV
can do.
PC Games - I have been around a computer since my brother brought home an Apple
][ + in 1980. I was fascinated by it. I knew I would work with computers
in some way. In the meantime, I loved playing games on the computer.
Several years later, I had a Commodore 64 and then a Commodore Amiga. I didn't
get an IBM compatible PC until 1996. Since then, and even before, I have played
a lot of games on it. So, I will be talking about the games I have played
over the years.
Console Games - Even before the Apple, we had an Atari 2600. I loved it!
I could play it for hours, as most kids can do. However, when it broke, we
didn't get another. I bought myself a Sega Genesis around 1993 and had that
for five years or so. Then, in 2003, we bought an xbox. We actually
went looking for a DVD player and I managed to convince my wife that the xbox also
plays DVDs. I don't think she completely bought it but she did allow me to
get the xbox. We have looked at the Wii and 360 but haven't done anything
since. Again, I like playing games and there are some very good games on consoles.
